Raiyoku gazed through the stormy night, focusing his next spell. "Vol Tayo Kairos!" The words rippled through the dark, tearing another massive tree to splinters with their power. Raiyoku gasped has he felt the power of Kairos surge through him for the hundredth time that night, bringing with it a strange euphoria. As his head cleared, Raiyoku's sadness returned. He thought of the earth-shattering betrayal he had so recently experienced... and it came from a friend.
The sounds of groaning behind him were nearly hidden by the rain. He spun around, drawing his axe in the same movement. With one smooth blow, he cut down the first zombie. As he turned to the second, his guards appeared and ripped it apart. Brushing a bit of rain from his ever present dark cloak, Raiyoku turned away from the carnage. "Back to work, I suppose." He muttered bitterly. Merfrid had finally gone mad. He'd been close in years past, but Raiyoku had been sure he had recovered. "But to try to declare war on all of Athera?" Raiyoku knew he had to move past it. He needed to focus on ruling, and ruling well. Light peeped through the clouds as he lifted his hand to begin the next spell. Tears mingled with the rain streaking his face. It was a new day.
Thank you for reading the second part in my Choices series! Basically this is just meant to be highlights centering around the most pivotal moments in my character's story. Many of these episodes were planned, and I always cancelled them, for one reason or another. More are coming, especially since I'm running my own nation now. Please feel free to comment or critique.
(Also, elders, could I get a leaderboard lore rating for this post?)

Power isn't in the strength we hold, the spells we know. It is in our everyday actions, and how they impact the people around us, in small ways.
